Scrye Magazine Reaches the End of the Line
Another day, another shuttered game company – or, in this case, gaming magazine. Scrye Magazine’s final issue will be #131, the April 2009 edition, ending a 15 year run.
A former Scrye contributor relayed the information about the magazine’s end at the HCRealms message board. F+W Media sent him a notice that included the following: “After much analysis and deliberation, we have determined to cease publication of Scrye magazine; the final issue will be the April 2009 edition, issue #131.”
Scrye also owns GamingReport.com, and while word of Scrye’s closing hasn’t yet hit their front page, the Scrye subscription link leads to another dreary message: “We are no longer accepting subscriptions for this publication. At this time we do not know when or if they will be restarted.” We have no word on how GamingReport.com will be affected by this.
With economics claiming many print publications and gaming companies, it’s not especially surprising that Scrye was no longer viable. It’s still a shame to see the longest running magazine devoted to collectible games fall by the wayside. I’m tempted to start a Robot Viking game company death pool.

Man, that sucks. Everything print is going the way of the Dodo. I remember reading Scrye and InQuest back in my MtG days…. those were quality mags.
I do hope that The Gaming Report can keep going. It wasn’t always the best source for gaming news, but it was one of the better ones.

@ Ed Grabianowski: You were just looking for a reason to use “Robot Viking” and “death pool” in the same sentance weren’t you
It is sad to see Scrye go the way of the Dodo, heck I remember when it first came out and seeing that it ran for 15 years I had one of those “It couldn’t have been that long ago” moments.

Damn, Scrye was one of the constants of gaming for as long as I can remember. It shall be missed.

Wow, I don’t know really what to make of this. And to think that I was meaning to subscribe. I’d normally just pick the magazine up at Target or at Borders. Sad.
