The latest Scion RPG adventure from White Wolf, Seeds of Tomorrow, provides a great jumping off point for new Scion campaigns, as the PCs work to rescue some children who aren’t yet aware of their divine heritage. It also forces players to deal with some sticky religious issues and decide which is the lesser of two evils.

Scion takes place in the modern world, but the characters are the children of gods and goddesses from various ancient pantheons. They have superhuman powers, which they use to fight the minions of the Titans, cosmic bad guys at war with the PCs’ parents. Seeds of Tomorrow positions the characters as investigators at the scene of a tragic fire that killed several children. As the plot unfolds, it appears that someone can tell which human children are the “unawakened” progeny of a god, and is seeking to control or eliminate them.

The adventure uses White Wolf’s Storytelling Adventure System. It’s designed to be somewhat non-linear, and is highly focused on character interaction and problem solving, rather than a collection of combat encounters (there are certainly some critical fights to balance the action). As a result, a large chunk of the adventure is taken up purely by character descriptions. The players will meet a lot of different people, each with their own clearly defined motivations and personalities.

The coolest thing about Storytelling System adventures is that they’re designed to be used as pdfs. Each pdf is fully bookmarked, and there are numerous hyperlinks within the document that make it easy to jump to a certain character’s stat block or a key scene in the story. I might go so far as to say that I would rather run the game using the pdf rather than a physical book. The last few pages are packed with character sheets, NPC stat cards and other handy references, designed for easy printing.

Some players might be put off by the fact that a Christian cult is deployed as villains in this adventure, but then, some players might take a certain delight in fighting as the children of pagan deities against believers in the One True God.

Seeds of Tomorrow is available as a pdf download from DriveThruRPG.com.

    Yay! More WW coverage!

Had no idea this was out. Sounds like a great starter to running a Scion game.

SAS documents are incredibly nifty. They also go hand in hand with the amazing free PDF starters that WW/CCP has put out for all of their current games. Manitou Springs, their Werewolf starter, is a pretty amazing way to be introduced to the Forsaken game.
