Miniature of the Week – Campaign Climax
This week’s MotW features a whole pile of miniatures, but it isn’t really about the minis at all. It’s about the situation.
I was sorting through some photos when I came across this classic shot. This is one of the battles that made up the grand finale of our 3rd edition D&D campaign. The minis themselves are fine – mostly prepainted D&D minis, with a few Mage Knight figures standing in for goristros, and some nicely painted metal minis adding extra color. It’s really everything around the miniatures that makes me love this photo. Click here to see the full-size version.
Was there ever a more perfect example of fun at the gaming table? Character sheets, snacks, beer, dice, pencils, rules books…the only thing missing is some Mountain Dew. It was there, but I’d set it on a side table. Looking at this photo reminds me why I love gaming – hanging out with friends and playing with cool stuff. I can’t wait for next week’s gaming session.
By the way, if you’re wondering, the PCs cut through this small army like a hot knife through butter. And yes, my character really did have a Staff of the Magi and a Ring of Wishes. And he needed them both for the final encounter, the one right after this one. The party entered a cavern and fought Tiamat and Cthulhu. Seriously. That’s a tale I should tell in full someday.
If you’d like to see your miniatures featured here, just send a photo at the highest resolution available to motw@robotviking.com. Make sure to include some info about when and where the photo was taken, who made and painted the miniature(s) or terrain, and something about the game being played if it’s an in-game shot. The photo needs to be one you took yourself, and you need to give us permission to display the photo at Robot Viking.

My old group used to add lots of alcohol to our sessions. If you failed a dice-roll or for almost any other reason the DM might prescribe a shot of tequila (or other alcahol in ready supply.) It made sessions take some odd turns it normally wouldn’t have.
Alas, since I have moved I cannot get together as often with those guys. Hanging out with friends was by far the best part of the events.
Very nice picture.

I was just noticing that the minotaur lord is on his face. I guess he got into the Labatts since his master was sending him up against you guys.
