Uh, Druid was up there with cleric for top of the line everything. One feat, natural spell, made it incredibly durable and still a primary caster. At the very least, the core druid outfights the core fighter/ranger/rogue/monk while still retaining castery goodness.

The issue with third edition druids was role. You had to figure out what type of druid you wanted to play and build to it. Are you a healer? An elementalist? A wild shaper? It wasn't easy to get more than one of them at a time. Healers had issues because they needed a feat to spontaneously heal, and they didn't have some important spells. For example Blindness is a permanent effect. Druids don't get cure blindness, so they gotta wait a few levels to be able to deal with somebody. (Clerics often didn't have it memorized, but they could fix that the next day.) Elementalist druids weren't as good as sorceror or wizards, but they were tougher. Wild shape dealt with the time if you changed to a new shape and lower bab's. On the GM side wild shape was a pain because all animals are not created equal.

I'm looking forward to playing an Avenger. One really nasty idea came to me - an elven avenger of Tempus with a high crit weapon and their channel divinty feat. You can make one attack per encounter a crit, as long as it hits. Well, when you focus on somebody you get two rolls to hit, with two more if you need them.

Hold on, let me weigh in before I get to the meat of the review: 3rd Ed Druids SUCKED? You mean those guys who could shapeshift into bears & could expend any slot to turn it into a summon monster? Yeah, my groups experience was VASTLY different; we hated the druid because we'd take our turns at the table, then the druids would come up: "Okay, Claw. Claw. Free Rend. Bite. Now I've got my animal companion...Pounce. Claw. Claw. Bite. Okay, now I've got my summoned creatures...."

Yeah, Druids were hella tough.
