Jedi Academy a Forceful Expansion for Star Wars Miniatures

Jedi houseparty.

Jedi houseparty.

Jedi have control over powerful semi-mystical forces, giving them the ability to perform feats so astounding they seem like magic. Telekinesis, choke-holds, mind-fogging, wamprat targeting – all of these are within a Jedi’s grasp. But what if you don’t have a kindly old hermit/former Jedi Knight around to teach you how to fight with the blast shield down? That’s where Jedi Academy comes in. We’ve got full stat cards for five new Star Wars Miniatures.

The actual Jedi Academy was formed by Luke Skywalker more than a decade after the destruction of the first Death Star. He used it to train new Jedis and form the New Jedi Order, but it was eventually destroyed and moved to other locations by Luke’s successors.

The Jedi Academy expansion for Star Wars Miniatures doesn’t refer to any specific academy; the figures depicted are teachers and students of Jedi learning, along with a healthy dose of their enemies. You can expect to find a lot of force using characters in this set, although there are plenty of force-haters, too. Here are five figures from the upcoming set (the release date is June 30th). And stay tuned, Star Wars fans – next week, we’ll have another preview, a never-before seen figure exclusive to Robot Viking.

death-watchPowerful, but can you afford to surround yourself with warriors of such questionable loyalty?

hk50It can’t be reasoned with, it can’t be bargained with. It doesn’t feel pain or remorse, and it absolutely will not stop until you are dead.

rocket-battle-droidOne of the cheapest flying units in the game, a group of these droids will let you take full advantage of the terrain.

At least you wouldn’t be cognizant of the fact…

True. Very true. As for using minis where they shouldn’t go, everything in my neck of the woods is represented with Warhammer40k or Heroscape stuff. When the warrior’s a Space Marine and the Orks have guns and the mage is a WWII paratrooper and you’re playing a forgotten realms campaign, people look at you funny.

I find that old, out of date miniatures are the best, like Mage Knight miniatures, or ones from old board games, even old Mighty Max playset figures rock.

The problem with a lot of awesome minis is that–well, I don’t paint. It is KIND of fun to do it with some buddies…but not enough for me to buy paints, or even set aside time to do it more often then lets say once a year. So pre-painted is the best, for me.

I DID just pick up some Mutant Chronicles minis to terrify my players with.

If I DID paint, I’d be all about Confrontation minis:

Yea, well none of my 40k stuff is painted, and Heroscape, Mageknight, and Mighty Max are all pre-painted. I’m color blind so anything I paint is going to turn out . . . interesting. . . I’ll send them in to miniature of the week once I get something painted.

I am very glad also for Paizo’s “buy ‘em one at a time” feature.
