Magic 2010 Preview: Serra Angel

Sometimes, you just shouldn’t mess with classics. Fifth and Sixth Edition were like the New Formula Coke of Magic core sets (“Now with 100% Less Serra Angel!”). The iconic white creature came back with Seventh Edition and each subsequent core set, and M10 is no different. Sharp-eyed readers will note, however, that she’s been demoted.

Reprising her Tenth Edition art, which is decidedly less cleavagey and, uh…pointy than prior versions, this Serra Angel will be appearing a lot more often. She’s reverting to her original status as an uncommon, a slot she occupied from Alpha through Fourth Edition. From Seventh Edition onward, she was a rare. When asked how she felt about the change, Serra Angel said, “I guess the developers didn’t realize that my flavor text is just a metaphor. I can do some serious damage with this thing!”

While there may be younger, hotter angels available these days, many Magic players know you can’t beat a classic beauty like Serra Angel. She’s even solid enough to make tournament-quality decklists. Even though she isn’t one of the 16 cards that has appeared in every core set, it’s still reassuring to know she’ll be here for another year at least.

Hell Yea! Now I stand a chance to bag one of these babes! Plus, it should be noted that Serra Angels are a race of Angel named after the Planeswalker who created them to populate her perfect plane.

I never really cared for the cleavagey version, though I did like the pointy version. I think I like this version too.

Odd… My google search for hot, cleavagy angels brought me here.

I like this art best. Then the cleavagy one, but I don’t like the Madonna angel at all.
