Magic 2010 Preview: Vampire Nocturnus
Magic 2010 preview number three: Vampire Nocturnus, a card that says, “I know those other colors are pretty, but I’d really prefer if you stayed with black.” Who am I to argue?
This card combines awesome flavor (a vampire that gets stronger at night!) with an awesome mechanic (he boosts himself and other vampires whenever the top card of your library is black, ie, “at night”) and a really weird casting cost. Even if they don’t put any other vampires in the core set, you could still do a lot of damage with four of these guys, and not just to your own checking account. With just two in play, each one becomes a 7/5 flyer. For four mana. This also instantly jumped into my top five Magic cards of all time based solely on card art.
Dear Wizards of the Coast,
Please send four copies of Vampire Nocturnus to:

I can see the cool mechanical appeal of this.

Hey, semi random note here, there is a card “Slayer of the Undead” that kills vamps, skeletons, and zombies. so you could in fact summon Buffy, even though the art looks more like Faith. though, I’m not sure I’d put Faith as a white card, she’s chaotic neutral on a good day. . .

ggodo– she’s better than CG on a good day! I feel like Angel’s redemption arc for her is pretty strong; she’s trending TN, TRYING for NG…

Still haven’t finished either series. Buffy just fought Dracula, and it’s Eternal Night in LA. I don’t like your implication that True Neutral is better than Chaotic Good. I can’t speak for the future, but Faith is slowly drifting further from the Chaotic end of the axis. I just noticed I didn’t capitalize hardly anything in my last post and feel ashamed.

Maybe, Joe, maybe.

ggodo– I don’t mean to say TN is “gooder” than CG– there are certain things I would say further, but I’ll let you watch the show
