HeroClix Returns This Week with Hammer of Thor
It’s been far too long since the days of breathless anticipation and constant page refreshing as we waited for each new preview figure from whatever HeroClix set was upcoming. On November 18, HeroClix will be reborn as Wizkids/NECA releases the first HeroClix set in more than a year.
Hammer of Thor was planned to be released in late 2008 or early 2009 until Wizkids was dissolved by parent company Topps. Supposedly, the sculpts and dials were already complete, so when NECA bought the Wizkids name and properties from Topps a few months ago, it didn’t take them too long to turn it around for release. Now the wait is over.
The Ragnarok Surtur figure pictured above is the “Buy It By the Brick” promo figure (grab a quarter case from a brick-and-mortar retailer, send in the box tops, and this guy will show up in your mail a few weeks later). You can head over to the officially relaunched Wizkids website for more preview figures. There are other preview figures at HCRealms, plus a full spoiler list (with most of the combat dials).
No word yet on what kind of organized play support the new Wizkids will offer, but we do know the next HeroClix set is already in the pipeline. A DC set called Brave and the Bold should be out in February of 2010.
You can order Hammer of Thor cases, bricks, boosters and singles from Robot Viking sponsor TrollandToad.com.
