Monsterpocalypse Gets Big in Japan

January 11th, 2010 by Ed Grabianowski

Privateer Press has a new expansion for Monsterpocalypse ready to hit game stores in April. Big in Japan will take the collectible miniatures game back to its kaiju roots, letting the giant monsters and robots attack Tokyo in the manner of their forefathers.

Big in Japan will feature a bunch of new monsters and units, along with signature buildings from the Tokyo skyline. I’m not sure if I’d know a signature Tokyo skyscraper if I saw one, but I do love giant monsters.

If you’re a MonPoc überfan, you can order up the Big in Japan Mega Kit, which serves up a full case of monster boosters (gauranteed one of each), a full case of unit boosters and a very rare limited edition Mega Mechathugrosh. If you don’t have that kind of scratch at the moment, you can just say the phrase “Mega Mechathugrosh” out loud several times to keep yourself entertained.

Retailers will have their own special Monsterpocalypse swag with the Big in Japan launch kit. It comes with six Mega Kits plus two limited edition Mega White Dajan figures, perfect prizes for an in-store Big in Japan release tournament. The official site has the rules, FAQs and image galleries from past sets.

If this set is going to be truly faithful to my favorite Godzilla movies, I want to see two crucial units: Crowd of People Fleeing in Terror and Utterly Ineffective Military Unit.

If you need to fill your Monsterpocalypse collection or want to grab some starters and boosters and learn the game, TrollandToad.com has you covered.

There are so many games I want to try, and so little money to buy them with. This one seems like it would be good fun, and I really want Arcane Legions, Especially if they have a Civil War era update for it. I’d be all over that. but, for better or worse the last few gaming allotted dollars I have are going to the new Tyranid codex. If you want, I could send you a review after I get it have some Quality Time thinking on it.

I truly know how you feel, I was just thinking about this yesterday. There’s some kind of equation that determines whether I’ll buy into a game. Like, (Fun + Likelihood I’ll Play it Often)/Cost * Amount of Space it Will Take Up in My Basement.

And yes, I would love a review!
