All Your Monsterpocalypse Voltron Dreams Come True

February 15th, 2010 by Ed Grabianowski

Privateer Press has announced an official release date, price and contents list of the Monsterpocalypse Voltron set.

I don’t usually like to just parrot press releases on Robot Viking, but consider this breaking news. From the official release:

The game, which has an MSRP of $49.99, will contain 22 pre-painted plastic figures, including Voltron, 5 Voltron Lions, 5 Galaxy Garrison Cruisers, Lo-Tron, 1 Prince Lotor’s Command Ship, 4 Robeasts, and 5 Lo-Tron Force Skull Ships. The game will also include 1 double-sided play mat, 24 specialty dice, 4 status counters, and a full-color rulebook.

“When we set out to create the first-ever Voltron tabletop miniatures game, we wanted to make sure everything about it drew the player right into the Voltron universe and thrust them front and center in the battle for control of the galaxy,” said Privateer Press Chief Creative Officer Matt Wilson. “This July, everyone who once dreamed of being part of the Voltron Force will finally have their chance to ‘form blazing sword’ and take control of the indomitable Defender of the Universe.”

So, no vehicle Voltron, which is a little sad, but it’s non-collectible, which is very nice. For $50 you get the whole Voltron set, enough for two people to play some awesome Voltron/MonPoc. Also, if you’re wondering what the hell “Lo-Tron” is, it’s apparently the name they made up for the big bad RoBeast from the Voltron movie Fleet of Doom.

The Voltron MonPoc set is due for a July 2010 release. You can complete your Monsterpocalypse collection with singles and boosters from Robot Viking sponsor TrollandToad.com.

speaking as someone who isn’t a child of the 80s my only experience with Voltron was a short-lived CG Voltron series I saw a half dozen times in the late nineties or early 00s. I still think this is awesome though, mostly because I love giant robots.
