Project: Death Race Nearing the Finish Line

March 12th, 2010 by Ed Grabianowski

Well, the funding effort is, anyway. Check out the total in the ad over there on the right. Two-thirds of the way there! The deadline is at the end of March. We just need $100 to make it.

Project: Death Race has always been a semi-temporary working title (there could be rights issues with that name), but I’ve had a hard time finding another that I liked. One that sounds cool, yet also makes it immediately clear what the game is about. My latest idea doesn’t quite accomplish the second part, but I kind of like it anyway:

Full Metal.

Aside from the obvious reference to the Kubrick film, it also alludes to something else I love: metal music. In fact, I would suggest that the phrase “Going Full Metal” enter our gaming lexicon — nay, e’en our everyday usage! — to mean laying it all out, giving every last drop of sweat and blood, using your Dailies in the first encounter, foot on the monitor, shredding every note of the guitar solo, all-out, balls to the wall, fire off the entire clip, pedal to the floor,  fist in the air awesomeness.

What do you think, Vikings? Should we go Full Metal on this one?

Unfortunately, there’d be reference to more than just Full Metal Jacket. At the risk of sounding like an anime/manga nerd (even though I sorta am) there’s also Full Metal Alchemist. However, that doesn’t really deter me from liking the name for use on the game. I just don’t know how you’d feel about sharing it with an anime.

Hm, I guess that could create some confusion. Though the subject matter is worlds apart. Either way, I’m using the phrase “Full Metal” as much as possible from now on.

I’m offering my Full METAL support for this phrase and title.

You know, I can’t help but feel we’ve strayed from the original concept somewhat…

    Black Metal
    Twisted Burning Wreckage

Also, I just remembered yet another anime, “Full Metal Panic.” Sorry to be THAT guy, Ed.

oh, why not get all alliterative : Mad Metal Mayhem… only problem is that a title like that, heck, a title like most that are being kicked around really don’t tell you much about the game itself.
maybe something blended from those answers previous to mine… Gaskets and Caskets? nah, major suckage there…
anyway, the question could be moot as it appears funding is stuck at $208, with, as i post this, just barely ten days to go…
