As somebody who has taken part in this sort of approach, I definitely support it. So far not only have we started working on story arcs for our groups individual characters, but Ed's been able to tie them together so they work towards one another, and to the overall plot. It keeps things infinitely more interesting than, "A shadowy figure in a tavern says there are goblins, and shit. You should go kill them." And the rewards for seeing something like this threw are a lot more... well... rewarding than just looting the dead body of a random enemy. They become part of your character rather than just something slapped on to make them more powerful.
