Robot Viking Invaded by Actual Robot Vikings

April 13th, 2010 by Ed Grabianowski

This clanking metal warrior is the work of artist Brian Marshall. He creates robot sculptures from found objects like oil cans and old cutlery, including a series of robot Vikings. Check out this gallery of his work.

The whole robot Viking sculpture/Robot Viking connection is just a coincidence. Brian created some robot Vikings, then searched the term and found this site, so he sent me an email. I love the one with the flail, above (his name is Alrik) — he’d make a great Robot Viking mascot!

Brian sells his robot sculptures under the name “Adoptabot.” You can buy them at Etsy.com. I’ve put together a gallery of some of my favorites below. I seem to like the less anthropomorphic ones best, especially the camera-headed robots. The sculptures with mouths and googly eyes have a whimsical charm, too — they sort of remind of metal muppets.

These are god damned awesome. Even though it’s a coincidence, it’s a great coincidence. Even better that Mr. Marshall decided to contact you about it. I’ll have to check out the rest of his stuff.

Also, I fully agree that Alrik would be an excellent mascot.

This is awesome, I love vikings, and I love robots. What could go wrong?

When I die, I want an army of those little guys guarding my tomb. Who need Terracotta warriors when you can have robot Vikings?
