Robot Viking to Invade Grand Prix Washington D.C.
Yesterday I mysteriously alluded to some Robot Viking travel — where will I be, and what will I be doing there? I’ll be in Washington D.C. this weekend, playing Magic until my eyeballs bleed.
A Grand Prix is a Pro Tour level event, but it’s an open competition (actual Pro Tours are invite-only). The format for Grand Prix D.C. is Standard. I’m certainly not going because I think I’m an awesome, Pro Tour calibre player (in fact, I might even skip the main event if my deck doesn’t perform well on Friday). I’m going because a Grand Prix is like a Magic carnival. There are side events going on all the time — sealed, draft, Standard, weird formats, special prizes (like a full set of Revised dual lands). There are Magic card vendors, and Magic card artists signing cards that feature the art they painted.
Wizards’ official Grand Prix D.C. page is here, and the event organizers have a full listing of all the excellent events they’ve got going on here. I don’t generally offer detailed Magic tournament coverage here on Robot Viking, but I will have a computer and a camera, so when I come across something cool, I should be able to post it live from the Grand Prix. And if any Vikings are planning to attend, hopefully I’ll see you there!
(We need some kind of secret handshake or salute or codeword or something).

Wrong coast for me, but I vote the secret handshake is doing the robot followed by some gesture indicating a viking helmet.

Perhaps there should be a youtube contest for best Robot Viking handshake. Good luck at the Grand Prix and may the Jitte be with you!

Aw, wrong coast for me, too. But have loads of fun! PT San Diego was a blast, and if it’s anything like that, you’ll definitely enjoy yourself, winning or not.

In a Swine Flu world, perhaps a handshake is a bad idea. But some kind of “gang sign” would work. Perhaps some variation of the Dio devil horns, but in our case, Viking horns.
(The Grognard in me is yelling, “Real Vikings never actually wore horned helmets!!!”)

Nope, but that doesn’t stop horned helms from being awesome.
