Wizards’ efforts to promote Magic to mainstream audiences have been hit-or-miss over the years. This commercial was made by some fans to promote their store. It tops every prior effort, without a doubt.
For all the crap that Ice Cauldron gets, if you look at it from a top down design perspective, it’s pretty simple. You’re putting a spell on “layaway” so you can cast something really big by letting it brew in the cauldron for a turn or two while you gain more power. It’s just, you know, REALLY awkwardly implemented.
It’s true, there are actually two reasonably practical uses for Ice Cauldron. 1 The first is to cast a Fireball twice as big. The second is to hide a card from your opponent’s discard spells. Whether those effects are worth the 20 minutes it will take to explain the card to your opponent is up to you.
