More Mechwarrior News — New Screens for Turn-Based MW Tactics

March 2nd, 2012 by Ed Grabianowski

There are actually two Mechwarrior video games coming out in 2012. Mechwarrior Tactics looks like an online version of original Battletech, and just released some screenshots, hexes and all.Hard info is scant on this new game, save for a handful of screens showing off mech-to-mech combat. The game will be turn-based and allow you to accrue experience and purchase new gear and mechs to outfit your lance. The developer’s use of the word “collectible” suggests to me that this will be free to play, but you’ll purchase packs with new mechs and gear. Mechs will be highly customizable, including some visual elements, which is actually pretty cool.

I’m more excited about this one, personally. I’m not really twitchy enough to do well at run-n-gun games, which in-the-cockpit mech games boil down to. Turn-based hex map strategy? Yeah, sign me up for that.

I AM SO IN YOU DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND!
I own the box set for BAttletech and I can’t get anyone to play because the heat management is so fiddly on paper. Something that does heat for me means I can play! HUZZAH! HUZZAH FOREVER!

Hmmm, It looks pretty but I wavered at “online,” although I was holding out for a single-player option as well. They pretty much lost me at “collectable.”

Whats wrong with making a decent, turn-based, PC Wargame anymore?

I agree that ‘collectible’ bit may well be a game killer for me.

Yeah, collectible turns me off too, unless there’s some way to get packs with in-game money like in Mass Effect.
