If you think you’re one of the best GMs in the world, your next opportunities to test your mettle will be at Phoenix Comicon and at Dexcon 15. The top contender will win a trip to Gen Con to compete in the Iron GM World Championships.
Iron GM’s appearance at Phoenix Comicon on Memorial Day Weekend is notable for a few reasons. The default system for Iron GM has long been D&D 3.5, and while GMs and players had the option of agreeing on a different system, that was pretty rare. In Phoenix they’re switching to D&D 4E as the base system. The top prize is pretty amazing, too. Not only does the winner get the trip to Gen Con, they’ll also get a gig as a designer on Open Design’s Midgard Tales project. That’s right, an RPG publication credit alongside Wolfgang Baur.
Then Iron GM moves back to home turf for Dexcon 15 in Morristown, NJ, July 4 through 8. the home team advantage has the Iron GM crew expecting a huge turnout. They’ve got a big prize in the plans for this one, too, but they couldn’t release any details. Lou Agresta would only tell me that, “it’s going to involve art, ancient engineering, and things that explode messily.”
As always, participating GMs and players will be showered with swag from companies like Gaming Paper, Kobold Quarterly, Open Design, Gamerati, Rite Publishing, Super Genius Games, Frog God Games, and more.
