Nerdist Debuts Realm of LARP Web Reality Series

June 26th, 2012 by Ed Grabianowski

Nerdist, a website for nerds, has unveiled an ongoing series about a tam of LARPers called Realm of LARP. Check out the first episode below.

I’m usually pretty skeptical about stuff like this, but this really seems to strike the ideal tone — it doesn’t take the subject too seriously, but it isn’t mocking the participants either. It comes across as just another way for people to hang out with friends and blow off steam on the weekends, albeit with elaborate costumes (seriously, the costumes are awesome).

This episode introduces the party, explains some of the basic rules of this particular LARP group, and carries us through a chaotic encounter with some goblins in a forest. I especially love newbie Tuck’s excellent role-playing, and I’ve already decided to adopt her battlecry as my own:

“We’re not food! We’re not food!”

I’m genuinely looking forward to the rest of the series.

Before I watched the episode, I was thinking this might be similar to Standard Action, a Canadian web series that was great. Now, having seen the first episode, this seems like the best reality TV ever.
