Rush Limbaugh Steals Wayne Reynolds’ D&D Art

August 2nd, 2012 by Ed Grabianowski

Conservative rage-monger Rush Limbaugh put the image on the left on his latest newsletter. The image on the right comes from the 3E Monster Manual II. If we can sidestep for a moment the hilarious and inaccurate hyperbole of that headline, was this really the best image they could think of to rip off? Nightmare Beast?

I originally caught wind of this story from io9.com (who I also write for). On his Facebook page, Reynolds said, “That’s a bad copy of an illustration I was never happy with in the first place. WotC’s legal team might be interested in this one though!”

Unfortunately for anyone eagerly awaiting some kind of legal comeuppance for Limbaaaaugh or the artist responsible, Chris Hiers, the political nature of Limbug’s newsletter almost certainly renders this repurposed art safe under First Amendment protections for satire/parody.

Pretty scummy to credit Hiers with it and not mention Reynolds, though. Although not having his name appear in that newsletter is probably a blessing in disguise for Reynolds.
