Welcome Back to Robot Viking!
Hi everyone. The Robot Viking can never die, it merely waits. For longtime readers, most of the old gaming posts will not be coming back — we’re starting fresh! There will be new gaming posts, movie reviews, and information about upcoming projects. I’ll also be featuring some of my favorite articles from more than ten years of freelancing, plus links to an ever increasing amount of fiction.
For the last few months I’ve been putting an enormous amount of energy into David Wellington’s Fear Project. Author David Wellington selected 13 unpublished horror writers and had us compete through a series of weekly elimination challenges for a $1,000 top prize. I finished second, which sounds disappointing — so close to the prize, right? But it was an amazing experience — the weekly discipline of writing to really tight word counts was like horror writing boot camp. And the winner, Laura Hinkle, is an incredible talent. No shame in losing to her. I’ll be featuring some of the other competitors in the coming weeks too, because they were all awesome and have their own cool projects going on, and some of them I will hopefully be collaborating with!
The real kicker, though, is that the top three Fear Project competitors earned a secret prize. And it’s still a secret. I mean, I know what it is, but I can’t talk about it yet. Let’s just say it’s something that could lead to bigger and better things, but not without a lot of hard work. Which means I need to get back to the hard work part. For now, enjoy some of my favorite stories from the Fear Project, assuming you’re in the mood for some horror flash fiction, and why wouldn’t you be?
