One sold out tournament, six packs of cards, three mythic rares and two losses later, I’m happy to tell you that Alara Reborn is one very interesting set of cards. The all-multicolor format left newbies befuddled – but it left experienced players befuddled too, so it was a pretty level playing field.

The last of Robot Viking’s Alara Reborn previews is the Pale Recluse, a very large spider that can block all manner of attackers, or it can slink back into its web and give you a land instead. Remember, the prerelease weekend is April 25-26, and the release date is April 30 (a Thursday).

The Ethercaste Knight proves that not every card in Alara Reborn is a gold card. He still has multiple colors in his casting cost, but he’s an artifact creature. Also, knights riding lions? Nice.

Today’s preview doesn’t have a new mechanic, but there’s something in that casting cost that we’ve never seen before. Marisi’s Twinclaws shows how thoroughly multicolor Alara Reborn is, taking the three colors of the Naya shard and mixing them in a new way.
