I’ve got a lengthy post at io9 today about the new releases Fantasy Flight Games has this summer and later this year: X-Wing, Netrunner, the Star Wars RPG, and a slimmed down Game of Thrones card game. Check it out.

The latest entry in the rapidly growing deckbuilding genre is Upper Deck’s Marvel Legendary game, due out in November. I was able to play a demo game at Gen Con. Here are some highlights.

I was able to attend the D&D keynote address at Gen Con, talk with Mike Mearls about D&D for over an hour and play some D&D Next with him as the DM, and interview brand manager Laura Tommervik about Rise of the Underdark. I’ve gathered up all that info into one feature article that just [...]

I hope your GenCon was good. This week I would like to talk about a piece of gamer news that caught my attention at GenCon: D&DNext is going to take two years to playtest.

The ubiquity of tablets and smartphones has lead to a burst of new releases that try to incorporate tabletop games with apps. NECA’s HeroClix TabApp lets you put a mini on your iPad and defeat supervillains with your flying fingers of DOOM.

I’m having computer problems today, so no time for a full post. But here’s a photo that I think captures the hilarity, fun and insanity of Gen Con quite succinctly. I’ve already got the 1,000-yard stare…

One of the surprise success stories from Gen Con was AEG’s Smash Up. A non-collectible card game, Smash Up lets you grab a deck of ninjas and a deck of dinosaurs, shuffle them together and compete to control all the bases. We took a lot of photos at Gen Con. A lot. You can find a whole gallery of them at HowStuffWorks.com (one of the sites I work for as a freelance writer). Captain America fighting Lolth is just the tip of the iceberg. If you look carefully, you’ll spot our friends from Iron GM, Lou [...]

Gen Con 2012 is here! Well, almost. As you read this, a van full of Vikings is roaring down American highways heading toward Indianapolis, where we will game. How does this affect you, Robot Viking reader?

If you’re heading to Gen Con this year, you might want to head over to the artist’s area and check out some of your favorite Magic artists. Not only will they be selling cool art prints, but they’ll sign cards featuring their art for you, which makes for a pretty cool souvenir. Which artists will [...]

If you think you’re one of the best GMs in the world, your next opportunities to test your mettle will be at Phoenix Comicon and at Dexcon 15. The top contender will win a trip to Gen Con to compete in the Iron GM World Championships.
