At a late night event at Gen Con, I was lucky enough to playtest a couple of still unfinished titles, both of which ended up being excruciatingly fun to my sleep-addled brain. First up was Shirak Agresta’s Horseshoes, Hand Grenades and Atomic Bombs. This 20-30 minute title pitted a handful of players each representing Cold [...]

Iron GM 2011 was a major hit this year, with organizer Lou Agresta running around like an orange clad lunatic as GMs were given an hour to craft a completely new five-hour adventure, using three secret ingredients. This year’s three surprises were Ogre Magi, Opera House and Oppression. Each GM was given an hour to [...]

While at GenCon, I managed to sneak in a few minutes with WoTC’s Adam Colby to talk about where Magic is right now. While Wizard’s big push this year is Neverwinter, Magic was there in force for the Nationals, as well as a large Duels of the Planeswalkers booth. I asked Colby about the upcoming [...]

WoTC’s big push at this years Gen Con was a return to Neverwinter, the venerable northern city that’s been a major crossover location for decades. Most of our readers probably remember Neverwinter Nights, the Bioware game from 2002 — but there was an even older title with the same name that AOL ran as one [...]

I had a chance to talk to Paizo’s James Sutter at Gen Con 2011, and calling Pathfinder a mindblowing success is understating it.

You may have noticed some posts this weekend from freelance writer Tim Barribeau. While Robot Viking could not attend Gen Con in person this year, Tim was covering it for io9.com, and he was awesome enough (and Annalee at io9 was awesome enough to arrange) to provide us with some direct coverage of new games [...]

One of the major announcements at GenCon was sprung on everyone on Friday — Margaret Weis Productions is getting the license for Marvel RPGs. They have an extremely aggressive plan with 16 books already in the works.

I was a Rookie rebel pilot in my first battle, with a Red leader and another pilot at my side. At the other end of the table? Six TIE fighters, bearing down on us at full speed.

Iron GM, a nationwide competition pitting the best gamemasters against each other in a head-to-head adventure running gauntlet of wits, will be holding their World Championships at Gen Con next weekend. Not only are the prizes for the Contenders insane, not only has actress/gamer/model Jen Page signed on as co-host, not only is the lineup [...]

You step up to the table only 60 minutes before game time. You’re armed with your minis, dice, notebooks and a few maps you’ve created yourself. Oh, and your wits. You’ll need those, because the host just announced the three secret ingredients: Frost Giants, Flashbacks, Funeral. Craft a clever and fun adventure out of those [...]

There we were, ensconced in the Wizards’ of the Coast Steel Cocktail Lounge high above the Gen Con exhibitor’s hall, Laura Tommervik, Rodney Thompson and I. What else was there to do but open up that new D&D Red Box and find out what it’s all about?

Check out this gallery of stunningly detailed miniatures from Dream Pod 9′s Heavy Gear booth at Gen Con (you didn’t think I was done sharing Gen Con stuff, did you?).

In my two days at Gen Con, I saw a lot of stuff and talked to a lot of people. What’s painfully evident, however, is just how much I missed. Terry Hope Romero was also there reporting for io9.com, and she has a mega gallery of Gen Con pics up today that shows off lots [...]

A revitalized Wizkids was at Gen Con last week showing off some new and upcoming games. Drawing the most attention were a pair of prototypes for two very different, very interesting Star Trek games planned for 2011 release.
